Weekend Rides

 Uno has been AMAZING!!

On Wednesday I tried to ride Dutch - he was a nutter.  I had to get off and walk him a mile.  Get on and ride a mile. Get off and walk back home... on a 21-year-old experienced trail and riding horse... WTF Dutch.

officially a CHONK

The good news is that his hoof casts have him feeling GOOD!

Then on Thursday I rode Uno and ponied Dutch for over an hour.  They were both SO GOOD!!! We trotted and cantered laps around the neighbor's hayfield and logged an impressive 4.5 miles.

Then they both rested on Friday.

Saturday I jumped Uno and he was a rock star!! There were some deep distances (esp the second bounce jump) but there was NO running off after the fence.  I would sit up and prepare to turn and he was just there.  We jumped around for twenty minutes or so mainly figure 8ing through the diagonal fences then coming through the bounce, then back to the figure 8s.  It was SO FUN!!

In the end, I even got brave enough to try the 2 (ish) stride bending line from the bounce to the diagonals and he nailed it.  It really didn't matter what distance came up, he calmly popped up and over the jumps.  WHAT A GOOD BOY!

I lunged Dutch a bit over some trot poles.  Without Previcox he happily bops around in a little western-style jog, but if pushed into a bigger trot is short on the left hind.  He was quite happy to canter and looked very sound on both leads.  His trot got better and better the longer he went.  I only lunged him for about 15 minutes.

His hind end doesn't reach quiet so far under that big belly!!

Then on Sunday we hacked out with Dutch and took some new roads.  We did just under 4 miles in 45 minutes and although Dutch was slow and a little tired, Uno was a champ.

I love these horses so much!
