Magic Trainer is Magic
Sorry for the lack of current media - blogger is not syncing with my phone anymore. These are all older pictures.
Our long suffering Dressage Trainer (DT) really is magic. Since we figured out Uno's saddle fit, he has been steadily improving. His trot was getting rounder. His canter was more balanced. We had actual half halts in all gaits. I know totally it is totally amazing that after 2 years under saddle we can walk, trot, and canter.
Our issue was transitions. All of them. Upwards, Downwards, Within gaits. All sucky.
Uno is super forward, he has been out walking and out trotting not only my 16' 2" TB, but also the majority of our first flight hunt field since he was a baby. Remember that he is barely 15'2" - I call him a pocket rocket. The boy can move!
Forward is also his go to for all new questions. When in doubt: charge forward.
He is also a weird little dude - he is naturally very balanced. We can counter canter 10 meter circles all day long.
All of this added together meant that choosing canter leads was a no go. At first his transitions were so BIG and FORWARD that our goal was management. Even downward transitions were done with huge push from behind. What Uno does not do is sit. More on that in another post. Getting a confirmed half halt meant that I could start to control the forward energy in a soft way.
Once we got through that I was hoping leads would fall into place.
NOPE!
Not until Monday night. Like I said - MAGIC!
Apparently inside leg to outside rein is non-negotiable - go figure! For Uno it doesn't matter where his butt, his back, or his head are. I have to have the outside shoulder moving around to the inside. The first few transitions were a little rough, but after riding a lot of shoulders-in to 10 meter circle to renvers at both walk and trot, he was able to carry himself much better and step up into the correct lead with little drama.
AND I REPEATED THIS AT HOME BY MY SELF!!
Who even are we?
