Farm Projects

I am ready for the end of misty rainy days

March brought with it a few completed house and farm projects, the plan was to get more done, but when the rain finally stopped we wanted to enjoy the outdoors as well as work.
The sun is sooo pretty.

Completed:

-New dividing fence w/ "gate"
Our neighbor lets us use his 1.5-acre 'pasture,' but having a non-electrified channel between our front gates was encouraging some bad behavior. We needed to replace this line of the fence anyway as the electric was not hot enough to keep in the mule, and our puppy regularly went for extended deer hunting visits over the fence.

- New Duck pen
We welcomed 3 new ducklings into our family this spring and they needed somewhere to live.  We got the fence, gate, and surrounding garden put in place.

- Mower maintenance
We love our baby garden tractor, but each spring it needs to bit of help to 'wake up' form winter.  Hubby got her up and running and I started the never-ending process of mowing things.

- Attic Vents
The original kitchen and bathroom vents just blew air into the attic, so when we had the new roof put on we had the roofers add the proper vents.  Hubby spent a day painfully squished up in the attic connecting the blowers and the vents with insulated piping.

- Minor Office revamp
Hubby's work was selling office equipment for cheap, so we picked up a new filing cabinet and office chair, then played Tetris to see how to best fit everything into his office, guest room, cat room.

1/2 Way There:

- Duck house
We have the materials and have sketched out our plans. Just need a dry weekend to build and paint it.

Our inspo pic.  This is what we want minus the nesting boxes and door.

- Arena Reno
We are on a waiting list for a local farm contractor to come and level and till our arena.  I will post more on this when it happens, but if we can get it done soon I will be over the moon.

- Flood Fixing
I know that the flood was 6 months ago, but we still have a 150-foot line of fence that is down and a tree that we cut down and stacked, but have not removed.  We need a few dry weeks before we can really work on the fence, but I am hoping to hire a local kid who has a landscaping company to take away the tree(s) this weekend.

So much water

So much gross.

This seems like such a small amount of work completed, but hubby was out of town 3 out of the 4 weeks of March.  We have a few really fun and transformative Spring projects.  I will make sure to take plenty of before and after pictures.

Springtime is a good time to be on the farm!

  1. It is so great to get some of those jobs checked off the list! I'm still under snow and ice, so I'm impatiently waiting...! I really want ducks at my place - they are the cutest!
