Stalls update

We had 24 hours of rain and the new stall bases got their first real test.

The unchanged aisle was flooded.

Many squishy puddles inside the barn.

And yet, the stalls were dry.

Dirty, but dry.
It was pretty amazing.  I cleaned the barn in the afternoon in less than 15 minutes, including dumping the wheelbarrow, throwing hay and changing waters.  We also only filled one wheelbarrow in the whole 24 hours, including morning stall picking, and a bit of pen cleaning and waste hay.  The bigger victory is that the stalls are still level - I was worried that water would cause sink wholes, but so far so good!!

The project cost us about $300 and 10 hours to complete, but it was totally worth it in time and material savings going forward.  The horses have figured out the lip over along their doors and were waiting to go back in after a few hours out in the wet.  The first night in Dutch must have really stretched out - he was covered in shavings from his eyelashes to his tail.

I am going to call this one a HUGE success.  We are waiting on the last quote to put up all the beams and roof for the 'real' barn before we decide if we are going to do the aisle as well.
