I am saving the gross-ish picture for last - just skip it if you want. Basically, 80% of the wound has healed GREAT! There will be no/ or just a minimal scar for most of it. His lower leg is not stocking up even when not wrapped. And the walk gets better and better everyday.
The very top 2 stitches popped on day 6 post-surgery and have been a pain ever since. You will be able to see in the last picture that they are in a difficult-to-wrap spot. While I was on vacation, his stitches pulled, and my Dad had to take him to the vet. The vet also struggled to wrap it. Everything just wants to fall - and I am so afraid of a bandage bow. Like we already know there is a broken tendon, I don't need to fuck up the others... we tried leaving it off, and he just rips it open walking around.
That said, he does get small turnout now in addition to his nighttime walkies. He is walking sound and even with a whole hoof print of over track from each hind leg. I am still losing sleep about this monster, but at least he seems to still be a happy horse, even if he is a broken one.

Ugh terrible wound, terrible location - such an upsetting injury! It’s looking really good all things considered tho, whatever you’re doing is working. Re: wraps sliding down, I’ve had ok-ish luck sometimes with putting a “bottom” sorta piece on, like a normal standing wrap on the cannon, to kind of serve as a foundation for the upper wrap around the hock. We had to do that type of “stacked wrap” for Charlie’s cellulitis years ago and it stayed decently in place…. Regardless. Good luck.
