Uno's back is not particularly strange or weirdly shaped, so it stands to reason that he would be a pretty basic fit. That is both right and wrong. It seems like although eh is a pretty basic fit, he doesn't
like most things that fit him.

A very horse shaped horse. |
The static fit on my current saddle is pretty descent, fitter recommended a small pad change and off we went. Uno started kicking from circle one, yay pissy pony! I know that sounds mean, but my horses have habits of making me a liar in front of professionals. The fitter noticed the saddle rocked slightly at the trot and wants to try a different saddle. We go back change saddles, the fit is WAY better and the saddle is super comfy for me. It is easy to sit
up and not
forward, but Uno instantly refuses to go forward, kicking out even at the walk.
Cue saddle, girth, and pad change montage - all ending is pissy kicking. Very smart saddle guy says today is not the day to keep pushing. We made an appointment to bring him down to saddle guy's place in Camden, and got assigned two homework activities. One - get the horse adjusted by our chiro. Two - sit in as many saddles as possible to see what I like, so we can narrow down what we try.

Please NO! |
Hopefully chiro will be out this week, but in the mean time I have been riding bareback,
hello abs, and there has been
zero bucking or kicking. In fact he has been downright sweet. Let's hope we can find the perfect saddle for this prissy princess and that is wont cost more money than God. My husband is already amused that we will be spending exponentially more money on his saddle than we did on the horse!

More of this soon please! |
Amused is good. Amused is better than outraged. It's crazy how much saddles cost.
ReplyDeleteTo make it worse I used to rep/ work for a tack shop. The harsh reality of paying retail price has been unpleasant. My husband has asked if it wouldn't be cheaper to find a horse to match the saddle, rather than a saddle to match the horse.
