Temp Barn

As a warning, I need to say I took all these pictures after a rare 4 day sunny stretch, and approx. 4 inches of rain ago... things now are *squishier*

So we moved the horses home 7 weeks ago and have been using this temp set up ever since.  We built 2 stalls into the carport that was there when we moved in and created a 30x70 ish pen off the carport and fenced another 1/2 acre side yard all for the horses.

This is of course completely temporary.

However, if we had moved in any season except the rainy season, I think it would serve our needs pretty well.

The barn:

Tucked in before dinner.

Before Cecil came home this served our needs well.  The feeders were too high for Steven to reach, so I could feed breakfast and leave their stalls open and they would just turn themselves out when they were done.  Feeding 3 in here is a bit trickier, but we are making it work.  The horses seem much happier with the open dividing wall, and I usually just hang a hay bag off the center post for them to share.

The pen:

It is 1/3 covered in wood chips

Looking out the 'pasture,' we have replaced the T posts with wood.
So other than the dirt half being a slip and slide with the 4 + INCHES OF RAIN that has fallen since Jan 1st, this is holding up really well.  We moved our hay hut in and have just stacked square bales inside it for them to eat.  They are still getting between 8 and 20 hours of turn out each day. 8 when it is actively raining 24/7 and the 20 pretty much every other day.

The 'Pasture':

I wish it were only this muddy now..

First few days here... so dry..

From the carport to the property line... Dutch jumps that little brush pile EVERY day when they get turned out.

This is the old (broken) well, that will eventually be removed, but it shows how the pasture runs forward alongside the house.

For all that this is working well, I cannot wait to get our barn in place and the rest of the fencing in.
