A bit more detail
So today Uno had the body work lady out and she found some very interesting things that make a LOT of sense with what Uno was doing and I was feeling. The good news is that nothing skeletal felt out of place or compromised. The interesting news was his 3 big places of adjustment:
- The muscle and tendon that attach at the poll had NO motion, they were both basically perma-flexed.
- There is a tiny (but strong) ligament that runs from the hip forward to the floating ribs - Unos is very very tight. Like no give or range of comfortable movement there to start.
- His sternum was rotated back and down - pulling his neck and shoulders forward and down like a person slouching.

After adjusting and massaging things out, we have a whole set of stretches to do each day, and some under saddle and in-hand exercises to help him out. In the end, I swear he was an inch or two taller and longer. It was funny because after his session he kept doing these full-body stretches UP and the OUT as he was in his stall.
All of this, added with the immediate end to the bucking when we stopped him from pulling down, leads to the conclusion that his lower back was too tight to stretch as needed for him to pull down. This meant that he continually would hurt himself when he would try to root and run at the back of the fence. It also helps understand why he has such a hard time with down and OUT - his soft tissue doesn't have that much stretch in it yet.
He had yesterday and today off, tomorrow he gets another Magna Wave session and goes back to work. This week will be road walking and walk, trot poles. Then by Monday, we will jump back into the dressage work. We have one more summer show doing dressage First level tests 1 and 2 at the very end of the month.
I know this is an old picture - but Grandma came over yesterday and fed him 4 pounds of carrots. You read that right, each horse got a four-pound bag of carrots as their "lunch" |
